Dear all,
This is probably the last blog I will write before I go back home, so I hope you will enjoy it!! Last time I wrote, Eva and I were on our way to Palenque. We got up very early to go to the ruins, after which Eva headed back to the hostel to go to visit her friend in Acapulco. Alone in Mexico.... So I joined an excursion to some beautiful waterfalls, Misol Ha and Aguas Azules. Kim and Jasper, you were right, definitely a must see!!! That night I got back to the hostel where I found four new room mates, Miranda from the States, Agustina, Elizabeth and Ivana from Argentina. We decided to for a drink with the guys in the hostel and within no time, the five girls were having so much fun together that we decided to go to Tulum together the next night. So at 1.00 am I went to the bus station to get the tickets!! Playa!!!! Before getting to the beach, the three Argentinan girls and I went to two more ruins on the border of Guatemala and Mexico only reached by boat: Bonampak and Yaxchilian, amazing!! These ruins conserve some beautiful paintings and sculptures that you cannot see in other ruins. It gives you a bit of an idea how the inside of the temple was really like. That night we travelled to Tulum in a freezer. I really donçt know whatçs going on with the buses here in Latin America, but the airco is so high that I had to sleep with three layers of cloths on, my sleeping bag and a blanket hahahaha! If anyone has an idea about the why of this interesting phenomenon, let me know. My theory is to prevent the spread of diseases....
We got to Tulum, left our stuff at the hostel, rented ourselves some bikes and headed off to the beach. Blue water, white sand, music... need I say anymore? How did we spend the day, let`s see: go to the beach, go snorkelling, go to another beach.... The next day we went to the ruins of Tulum, gorgeous because they are right on the beach, but over-crowded. We were early so we could still see a lot of the ruins, and relatively few people! Next stop: Playa del Carmen. Party town! Playa del Carmen is a very turisty town with lots of shops, restaurants and bars/discotecas, Miami beach of Mexico (apart from Cancun). Plan was to stay in Playa del Carmen one day and go out to Cozumel, an island, the next. However, we found ourselves in such a good party that we got home at 5.00, were too tired to get up and decided to spend the day on the beach. In the afternoon Agus, Eli and me went parasailing. Absolutely one of the best things I have ever done in my life! Ill post some pictures soon. That night, an other party was scheduled. And just as we were getting bored and disappointed with the party, three guys from Paris showed up, dancing like crazy to the beats of old-school hip-hop. Absolutely fantastic. We decided to throw in a bit of our game and before we knew it, a bar that was about to close, was packed with people, dancing!!! So after our stay in Playa del Carmen, I got myself a new nickname: Casi Latina haha
The next day we took a bus to Cancun, from where we took a boat to Isla Mujeres. After Tulum, I did not believe that water could be any bluer, but now I do! We had a great hostel with a bar on the beach, so we got wrapped up in another party! After this beach/party break, I am in Merida now, waiting for the bus to go to Campeche. Today we went to the ruins of Chitzen Itza. We got up at 4.45 to take the 6.00 bus, got thre just as the park opened, which gave us the opportunity to walk around and enjoy the ruins without seeing looooooots of people. Chitzen Itza is by far the prettiest set of ruins I have seen. I still have to get the pictures of several cameras, but I will also post them soon.
Plan for the coming days: tomorrow will be my last day travelling with the girls as they are heading back to DF (Mexico City) and I still want to visit San Cristobal de las Casas. I will stay there for a few days and either go back to Guatemala or join the girls in DF. So with a little less than 10 days left, I am still having lots of fun, but on the other hand I am also looking forward to going home and seeing all of you again!!!!! Prepare yourselves for lots of stories and pictures and catching up!!!
Big hugs and lots of kisses!!!! See you soon!!!!
