Dear all, lieve allemaal!!!
Friday we came back to Bogota and initially we were planning on staying 4 nights, but we are leaving today to go to the warmer parts of the country: Cartagena!! We had a really great time in Villa de Leyva, the landscape is beautiful and the hostel we were staying at is run by the sweetest family in Colombia. As a thank you, we decided to bake them a true Dutch Apple Pie. However, the oven the lady presented us with, was more like a steamer. So we steamed the pie, then scraped it back into a small toaster/oven.... the result: Pie a la Guerilla! It tasted good though, it just didn't look like a nice apple pie. I can show you guys the before picture, but we were too ashamed to take an ' after picture'.
The next day we accompanied the oldes son, Diego, on the day of the family, where all the kids in town go for a walk. He was sad cause his parents couln't go, so we decided to do the job. About a hundred Colombian school kids, and two gringas... Diego loved it haha. That same day we went for the horseback ride, which was a lot of fun, as mine was afraid of water and stopped as she got near.
On Friday we got back to Bogota and immersed ourselves in a party with the guys working in the hostel. Finally, we went dancing (to a bar with only Colombians) haha: lots of fun! At 3 we were really tired and decided to go home. The next morning we chilled a bit and went shopping on the one street we know is safe!
This is the bad thing about Bogota. It's a great city with lovely people, but it's not safe at all. You cannot even walk two blocks at night... Eva and I were just talking about it this morning. We don't feel like we have visited a city of 8.25 million people, more like several islands in it. To get from one to the other you have to go by taxi, cause the streets in between can be really dangerous. Friday at 19.00, a huge guy with a huge gun (oozie) was stationed at the corner of the bank. And he was not just holding the gun. He was hunting and ready to shoot.... really weird!
That's why we decided to leave tonight and reschedule our flight. A city with great potential, but held prison in its own backyard.
So tonight at nine we will arrive in Cartagena, the prettiest city of Colombia they say. The weather is warmer and there are beaches!!! Finally we can unpack our bikini's! We are planning on staying about 1,5 weeks in this area. Part of this trip will be the National Park of Tayrona which is said to be amaaaazing!
We can't wait!!! Im running out of time, so talk to you soon!!!!!
Big kisssss!!!!!!! Mua!

It's a good idea to follow your instincts and not to stay in an unsafe place too long. BTW don't forget to post some pictures! -
